Living Room Refresh Update - Progress Pic

Here’s how our living room refresh is coming along! I’ll post the final once the rug comes in, but wanted to be transparent and show some progress shots. Beware the room is messy, but we’ll get to tidying once it’s closer to completion.

All jokes aside, this week has been a crazy one. At home baby Benji was on a feeding strike for about 3 days and would only snack instead of eating full feeds. I’d given up dairy since it seemed to give him reflux, but did a little experiment where I had pizza (ok more like I gave in to a craving). DID NOT go well. In the days after, Benji refused to nurse for more than 2 minutes at a time and I felt so horrible for causing him pain.

He’s eating much better now, so looks like we’re back off dairy until he weans. I’ll miss stinky cheese and pizza, but it’ll be easy to avoid now that I know how much it affects him.

How could I ever do anything that would hurt this little guy!

With that, we didn’t get as much done on our living room project as we wanted. But we made one change we weren’t expecting, and it made a world of difference! We rotated the couch! Revolutionary right? Well it was for us at least. Remember the before photo where we had that long media console in front of the windows? Re-posted below. We never thought we’d be able to get rid of that console since Aaron has so many video games. However, after talking it over we decided it was worth losing the storage to rotate the couch and open up the room. A TV in the living room is a must for us, so we moved the TV to sit over the fireplace. You can’t see the fireplace from the photo but it’s in the far right hand corner of the room.

Aaron graciously moved some of his games into his office, and we bought a little rolling cart to stash the rest behind the couch. The key was just finding one short enough that it wouldn’t show, but still deep enough to fit the PS4 and box for the TV. We settled on this one from Amazon since it’d be able to ship fast. The TV has a really long thin cord, so we can run it along the wall to behind the couch (tacked down, so it’s baby proof once Benji is mobile). Frame TV, stroke of design genius from Samsung.

Very messy, but a progress pic notheless!

So we’ve rotated the couch and replaced the blinds, and that’s where we’re at so far! Crazy how a few changes can make such a big difference. We still have the media console, but we’re going to break it down and get rid of it so we can push the couch over a few inches. The rug still won’t be in for another week, and we’re looking for a secondhand chair to go where that folded up rug is now. I was dreaming of a vintage safari chair, but everything was way way way out of our budget. So for now, it’s back to looking on Craigslist and setting notifications on Charish and 1st dibs. We’re using the folded rug as a placeholder so we don’t get too used to having that open space.

I thought we would need to buy more items, but when all is said and done we’ll just have bought new blinds, a new rug, and two new throw pillows. Possibly a used chair if we can find one. All the little decor pieces we owned already and moved from a different room in the house. We’re pretty happy with how it is turning out!

So what do you think so far? Does the room look more spacious or about the same?
